Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday criticised the Congress party’s policy of what he described as “appeasement” and said that the Congress Working Committee’s decision to sing only two stanzas of Vande Mataram amounted to repeating a historic mistake that had sown the seeds of Partition.
Shah alleged that in 1937, the Congress party, in the name of appeasing Muslims, divided Vande Mataram into two parts and laid the foundation for the Partition of the country. He claimed that this decision strengthened the two-nation theory, which eventually contributed to the Partition and the creation of Pakistan.
Criticising the Congress Working Committee’s decision, Shah described it as “anti-national” and an open violation of a law enacted by Parliament.
The Union Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had corrected the decision taken by the Congress party in 1937, 80 years after Independence.
In a statement issued by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Amit Shah said that the people of the country would no longer tolerate opposition to this correction. He said the BJP condemned the Congress party’s decision and was determined to oppose it before the public as well as in Parliament and other legislative forums.
Questioning the Congress party’s patriotism, Shah said the decision once again demonstrated its policy of appeasement. He also alleged that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress was once again aggressively pursuing the politics of appeasement in the country.
Shah appealed to citizens to remember that the country had once made the mistake of dividing Vande Mataram into two parts and had to face serious consequences as a result. He urged people to unite and raise their voices against the Congress party’s decision, making it clear that the politics of appeasement would no longer be tolerated.
