Spin bowlers who are known as the best are the ones who can pivot the batsmen.




Spinners come in a variety of forms such as traditional leg-spin, googly, flipper, leg-break, and others. While there are different forms of spin bowling, there are some bowlers who have established their dominance in the field. Here is a list of the top 5 best spin bowlers of all time.

Shane Warne
Shane Warne is widely known as the best spin bowler in cricketing history and he is also known as the “king of spin”. He has taken several wickets for Australia, and Shane Warne’s impact as a cricketer is considerable. He made his cricket debut in 1992, and soon after he became a vital team member.


Among Warne's most memorable achievements in cricket's past, his single delivery against Mike Gatting on June 4th, 1993, during an Ashes match, stands out as a pivotal moment in the sport's history. This delivery was particularly noteworthy for its impact on the match and for the resurgence of leg-spin bowling as a technique. He has played 145 test matches in which he has taken 708 wickets, followed by 293 wickets in ODIs. With records like that, Shane Warne is truly the best spinner in the world.

Muttiah Muralitharan
In international cricket, Muttiah Muralitharan has the most record-holding international wickets in both format and game. He was a right-arm break bowler who was also the best spin bowler of his time. In 1998, he took 16 wickets at The Oval and single-handedly led Sri Lanka to their first victory in a Test match victory.



He made his debut in the year 1992 in Test cricket followed by his debut in ODI in the year 1993. He has taken 800 wickets in 133 Test matches, and 534 wickets in 350 ODI matches. His Test match wicket is still considered the highest record which makes him the all-time highest wicket-taker in the game history.


Anil Kumble
Undoubtedly one of the world’s best spinners of all time. He rolls it more gently and quicker than anyone else, and he possesses a collection of tools that range from googlies, a kind of flipper that stays close to the ground and slides, to a top spinner that rebounds.


He holds the record for the most wickets taken in a test match. He is the third most successful bowler with 619 test wickets in 10 wicket hauls. His 10 wickets draw against a match with Pakistan has won him the title of the greatest spin bowler of cricket in India during his time. He had an ODI career with the best six of twelve runs against the West Indies in the 1993 Hero Cup.


Daniel Vettori
He made his debut at the age of 18 in 1997. Daniel Vettori became the youngest bowler to take 100 wickets at the age of 21. He became the initial New Zealand bowler to achieve the milestone of 12 wickets in a home Test match against Australia in March 2000 in Auckland, scoring five for 62 and seven for 87.

His bowling style is slow arm-left orthodox, and he has taken a lot of wickets with this style in International cricket. Vettori took 362 wickets from 133 Test matches, 305 wickets from 295 ODI matches, and 38 wickets from 34 ODI matches in his International cricket career.


Saqlain Mushtaq
Mushtaq ranks 5th in the list of best spinners of the cricketing world. He is known for his unconventional off-spin-bowling delivery known as “doosra” which he created and mastered. Another notable accomplishment is that he holds the record for being the fastest bowler to achieve 100 wickets in the history of ODI cricket.

His bowling career boasts outstanding statistics, including 208 wickets in 49 Test matches and 288 wickets in 168 ODI matches. His best performance in an innings was 8/164 in Test cricket and 5/20 in ODI matches.

Rashid Khan
If we have to talk about modern cricket then Rashid Khan is one of the best spinners of it. He is the youngest bowler to hold the top spot in the ICC player rankings in the ODI matches in 2018. He also achieved the highest position in the ICC Player Rankings for bowlers in the T20 format during that same month. Following his remarkable performance at the 2018 Asia Cup, he ascended to the summit of the ICC’s all-rounder rankings in September 2018.

Rashid Khan shattered Mitchell Starc’s old record of 52 games by securing the title of the quickest and youngest bowler in history to reach 100 wickets in ODIs. He managed to achieve this feat in just 44 games. He also set a new record for being the quickest bowler to achieve 50 wickets in the T20 format in June 2018. Moreover, he achieved this milestone in just two years and 220 days and that helped Rashid Khan net worth triumph. This achievement didn't mark the end of his success, however, in October 2021, following just 53 matches, he became the quickest bowler to achieve 100 wickets in T20 cricket. He also achieved a hat-trick in the third T20 International match against Ireland in February 2019. His 5 for 3 performance is his best in a T20 match.
