How to Prepare for AILET: AILET Syllabus & Pattern
Before
diving into the approach you should take, let’s take a look at the
AILET 2020 syllabus for BA LLB and what it consists of. Candidates will
be given a total of 90 minutes to solve 150 questions carrying one mark
each. These questions are categorised into five sections, mentioned
below. However, as there is negative marking of 0.25 marks per question,
guesswork may prove fatal. The AILET 2020 syllabus for LLM and PhD is
different. Please visit the official website.
How to Prepare for AILET: English
The
English section consists of 35 questions of one mark each which test
the grasp of a candidate over the fundamentals of English grammar as
well as problem-solving abilities.
• Elements of the Passage: Each
passage is made up of certain elements, namely, its main idea/theme,
author’s point of view and counter-arguments, if any and conclusion. The
main idea is the subject on which the passage focuses on, it is what it
deals with. Secondly, the author’s point of view is the
speaker/narrator who presents arguments & counter-arguments. A lot
depends on his tone whether it is critical or neutral, positive or
negative. Lastly, the conclusion is where everything comes to a wrap, a
final closing argument.
• You can either take the ’Top-down’
approach or the ’bottoms-up’ approach. While the former emphasises close
reading the passage before answering, the latter stresses on questions
then the passage. Choose whichever mode suits you and stick to it.
However, do give the passage an initial scanning for a brief idea.
