Located in southeast Asia, Thailand is widely known for its magnificent royal palaces, tropical beaches, primeval ruins, and overelaborate temples that depict buddha figures. You will more often than not find Thailand on many travelers' wish lists. This is largely because Thailand is a tourist destination, and most of its revenues are gained from the tourism industry.
However, due to the novel coronavirus that became a world pandemic in late 2019 and early 2020, many travel restrictions measures have been put in place. This pandemic saw Thailand and many other countries come up with rules and regulations that restricted travelers' movement in and out of various countries. So, for that reason, it is essential that you present your Thailand visa on arrival when asked for it if travelling there in the near future.
With the new year 2021, tourism in Thailand is slowly resuming with the hopes of restarting foreign arrivals in mass numbers soon. Assuming that Thailand is among the countries you would want to visit this year, read on as we look at some of the requirements you will need to travel to this beautiful country.
Special Tourist Visa
Following the many months of dormancy brought about by Covid-19, Thailand's travel industry is slowly going back into normality. The borders are re-opening, the stringent quarantine requirements are easing, and Thailand's tourism authority has introduced a new visa, the STV.
A special tourist visa is being issued to tourists who would want to extend their stay in Thailand. The special tourist visa allows a tourist to stay in the country for 90 days, and it can be extended twice, with an addition of another 90 days in each extension.
What You Need to Apply for the STV
Any foreigner wishing to travel to Thailand can apply for a special tourist visa. However, for you to qualify for the visa, you must provide the following;
• Evidence of place of residence
• Proof of payment for the facility of quarantine once in the country
• Medical and travel insurance. Minimum of USD 100,000 for Covid-19 coverage
Other Documentation Required Include;
• Covid-19 health certificate
• Fit to fly certificate
• Certificate of entry
• Post quarantine accommodation details.
It is important to note that the fee and documents required to apply for a visa are subject to change anytime without any prior notice. Always make a point of enquiring to see if any changes have been made.
As you plan to visit Thailand, you should also be psychologically prepared that you will need to spend a total of 14 days in quarantine. This is a must, and you can either choose to be quarantined in a state-approved hotel or hospital.
Also, travelers are encouraged to download an application provided by the country for mobile tracing. This will help you remain safe and contact the necessary authorities in case of any eventualities.
With travel bans slowly being lifted in many countries, it is time to tick off some of the names that remained in our wish lists of countries we would like to visit.
However, remember that your health is of paramount importance. Observe all the Covid-19 rules and restrictions and follow guidelines provided when visiting these countries. Amidst all these, try to have fun as much as possible!
