Megastar Amitabh Bachchan and legendary singer-actor Kishore Kumar worked together during an important era of Hindi cinema and met each other on several occasions. Big B has now shared some cherished memories associated with the legendary artiste, including a funny phone-call incident when Kishore Kumar mistook Amitabh’s voice for that of his own son. Amitabh also recalled visiting Kishore Kumar’s home, where the singer warmly welcomed him and proudly showed him his extensive collection of video cassettes.
In an upcoming episode of the popular quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18’, Amitabh Bachchan will be seen remembering Kishore Kumar. During the conversation, he described Kishore Kumar as an extremely warm-hearted person who always met him with great affection.
Amitabh recalled that he also had the opportunity to sit with Kishore Kumar at a recording studio.
Big B said, “Once Kishore Kumar invited me to his home. Video cassettes were very popular at that time, and Kishore Kumar was very fond of collecting them. He showed me his collection of cassettes of films and videos from around the world. He was extremely excited about his collection and proudly showed it to me.”
Amitabh Bachchan then shared a humorous incident involving a phone call with Kishore Kumar. He said, “One day, when I introduced myself on the phone by saying, ‘I am Amit speaking,’ Kishore Kumar assumed that it was his own son and singer Amit Kumar calling.”
The episode also featured contestant Virendra Jaiswal, who hails from Khandwa, Kishore Kumar’s birthplace. He spoke about the legendary singer’s special connection with the city.
Virendra said that Kishore Kumar’s songs are so deeply embedded in the hearts of people in Khandwa that whenever his name is mentioned, people instinctively begin humming his songs.
He further said that Kishore Kumar left his mark as a singer, actor, writer and in several other fields of entertainment. According to him, there was hardly any area of the entertainment industry in which Kishore Kumar did not leave his imprint.
Virendra added that August 4, Kishore Kumar’s birth anniversary, is still celebrated in Khandwa in a special manner. People in different parts of the city sing his songs as part of the celebrations.
Sharing an emotional detail, Virendra said that when a child is born in a family in Khandwa, the name ‘Kishore’ is among the first names the child hears. This, he said, reflects the deep and enduring bond between Kishore Kumar and the people of his hometown.
