Delhi। In a profound expression of solidarity with India’s defence forces and the broader cause of national service, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, launched a Voluntary Blood Donation Drive under the banner of “Blood Bank for National Service.” The initiative, held on the occasion of National Technology Day, calls upon the scientific community to stand united in support of the nation’s security efforts.
Speaking at the inauguration of the blood donation camp organized by the Ministry of Science & Technology in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Dr. Singh emphasized the humanitarian responsibility of the scientific community. He stated:
“Science is not just innovation, but compassion and service in action. While modern warfare is technology-driven, the spirit of national service goes beyond laboratories. Blood donation is a symbolic yet powerful act of unity during times of need.”
Ministry of Science & Technology Among the First to Lead the WayDr. Jitendra Singh noted that the Ministry of Science & Technology is among the first government bodies to undertake such a campaign in the current national security context. The voluntary blood donation drive is part of a broader initiative aimed at creating a ready and diverse national blood reserve for emergency and defense-related medical requirements.
Aligned with this year’s National Technology Day theme — YANTRA: Yugantar for Advancing New Technology, Research & Acceleration — the campaign seeks to redefine the role of science not just in technological innovation but in ethical and humanitarian action.
Strong Participation and Social CommitmentThe event witnessed over 100 volunteers, including scientists, researchers, students, and staff from various scientific institutions, who came forward to donate blood. Dr. Jitendra Singh personally interacted with the donors, expressing gratitude for their contribution and addressing common misconceptions about blood donation, drawing upon his background as a noted endocrinologist and physician.
National-Level Expansion in the Coming WeeksLooking ahead, Dr. Singh announced that similar blood donation camps will be conducted across all scientific departments and research institutions nationwide in the coming weeks. The aim is to establish a robust, accessible, and diverse blood bank that can be mobilized swiftly in times of national emergencies or crisis situations.
“This initiative resonates with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has consistently advocated for science to be deeply rooted in societal welfare and national service,” Dr. Singh remarked.
A Message of Unity Through ScienceThe Ministry of Science & Technology extended heartfelt appreciation to the Indian Red Cross Society, all participating organizations, and every individual who contributed to this noble cause. The camp, held on the momentous occasion of National Technology Day, stood as a testament to how scientific excellence and social responsibility can go hand in hand.
The event not only celebrated scientific progress but also highlighted the moral and civic duties of the scientific community — showcasing science as an instrument of compassion, unity, and national service.
