SMS Medical College HOD Dr. Manish Agarwal Arrested for Accepting ₹1 Lakh Bribe in Jaipur

In a major anti-corruption operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jaipur, on the directions of its headquarters, arrested Dr. Manish Agarwal, Head of the Department (HOD) of Neurosurgery and Additional Principal at SMS Medical College, Jaipur, for accepting a bribe of ₹1,00,000.
Complaint and Verification
According to Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Smita Srivastava, the ACB received a complaint stating that the complainant supplied brain coils used in neurosurgery.For approving and counter-signing bills related to these supplies, Dr. Manish Agarwal allegedly demanded a bribe, causing harassment to the supplier.
Following the complaint, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of ACB, under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Anil Kayal, conducted a preliminary verification, which confirmed the allegations. Subsequently, a trap operation was planned.
Caught Red-Handed
During the trap operation held today, Dr. Agarwal was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe amount of ₹1 lakh from the complainant.According to ACB officials, the bribe was taken in exchange for counter-signing bills related to the brain coil supply.
Further Investigation Underway
The ACB has initiated an inquiry to determine whether the bribery was an individual act or part of a larger corrupt network.A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is in progress.
Increased Vigilance in Government Institutions
The ACB has been intensifying its anti-corruption operations across Rajasthan, targeting officials in education, municipal, and health departments.SMS Medical College is one of the state’s premier medical institutions, and the arrest of such a senior official has raised serious questions about transparency and ethics in the medical sector.

ADG Smita Srivastava stated —
“No matter how senior the officer is, anyone involved in corruption will face strict action. The ACB is committed to maintaining transparency and accountability in public service.”
She also mentioned that the ACB is gathering forensic, documentary, and digital evidence in the case.Search operations at Dr. Agarwal’s office and residence are also under consideration.
Shock Within SMS Medical College
The arrest of Dr. Manish Agarwal has created panic and unrest within the college administration.Several faculty members and staff are being questioned by the ACB to verify whether such bribe practices were recurring within the department.
Although the college administration has not yet issued an official statement, sources said that suspension proceedings against Dr. Agarwal are likely to begin soon.

Over the past few months, the Rajasthan ACB has caught several senior officials red-handed while accepting bribes —from the Education Department to Municipal Corporations,and now extending to the Medical Education Department’s top ranks.
