India has condemned the violence against protesters and the people in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). During the Ministry of External Affairs’ press briefing on Tuesday, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal appealed to the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for human rights violations.
Asked about India’s position on the violence taking place in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Jaiswal said, “We are closely and fully monitoring the developments taking place in our neighbourhood. We are witnessing how human rights are being violated in Pakistan. So far, 90 people have lost their lives. The demands of the people are being met with bullets and internet shutdowns. Everyone can see how Pakistan is subjecting its people to repression.”
He urged the international community to take note of the situation. He said, “We have witnessed human rights violations. We have seen how people have been killed and subjected to brutality. This has once again demonstrated that Pakistan still has a lot to do in the field of human rights. People have been killed in the recent violence. It is now the responsibility of the international community to take note of the situation and hold Pakistan accountable.”
On the recently concluded defence pact between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, the MEA spokesperson said, “We are closely monitoring developments in West Asia. We are looking at them from the perspective of their impact on India’s security and peace and stability in the region. India remains fully committed to safeguarding its national interests and will take whatever steps are necessary accordingly.”
Recently, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Mecca Defence Pact. Under the agreement, a military attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three.
