Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Indian diaspora serves as a vibrant bridge between India and Uzbekistan. During his bilateral visit to the Central Asian country, a large group of members of the Indian community warmly welcomed him in Tashkent.On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi wrote on the social media platform X, “I am overwhelmed by the love and affection shown by the Indian community in Tashkent. Our diaspora is a vibrant bridge between India and Uzbekistan, further strengthening the friendship between the two countries.”He also praised the cultural performances showcasing a blend of Indian and Uzbek traditions during the welcome ceremony, saying they reflected the deep cultural ties between the two countries.Sharing a glimpse of a tabla performance on X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “A wonderful confluence of Indian and Uzbek musical traditions! The tabla blended beautifully with instruments such as the doira and chang. It reflects the deep cultural connection between India and Uzbekistan.”Some women from the Indian community also met Prime Minister Modi and tied rakhis on his wrist.He watched cultural performances presented by the artists and appeared particularly attentive during a dance performance by children. After the programme, he also interacted with the young performers and shook hands with them.Earlier, Prime Minister Modi visited the Yangi Uzbekistan Monument and described it as a symbol of the aspirations and progress of the people of Uzbekistan.Writing on X, he said, “After arriving in Tashkent, I visited the Yangi Uzbekistan Monument with President Mirziyoyev and paid my respects. The monument reflects the aspirations and progress of the Uzbek people. I am pleased to begin my visit by coming here.”Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was also present alongside Prime Minister Modi. The two leaders visited Yangi Uzbekistan Park and viewed artworks depicting Uzbek culture and history.Prime Minister Modi also thanked President Mirziyoyev for the warm welcome extended to him at Tashkent airport. He has arrived in Uzbekistan on a two-day state visit.As a special gesture, President Mirziyoyev personally came to the airport to receive Prime Minister Modi. The gesture reflects the steadily strengthening friendship between the two countries over the past 12 years.After arriving in Tashkent, Prime Minister Modi wrote on X, “President Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly welcomed me in Tashkent. I am grateful to him for this special gesture. This is my fourth visit to Uzbekistan, reflecting the depth and growing momentum of our bilateral relations.”
