India`s coronavirus count climbs to 226,770 with 6,348 deaths, state-wise tally

Coronavirus positive cases in India have climbed to 226,770 as the country recorded nearly 10,000 fresh Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours on Friday. Beginning Thursday, India reported as many as 9,851 fresh coronavirus cases in a day. This is the highest-ever single-day spike reported in a day in India. According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, India reported 9,851 new coronavirus cases and 273 casualties in 24 hours. The death toll in the country has now climbed to 6,348. The total number of cases in the country has now mounted to 226,770 including 110,960 active cases and 109,462 cured/discharged/migrated, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated in its latest data.

Mumbai: With 2,933 coronavirus cases, Maharashtra continued to add the highest number of COVID-19 cases even on Thursday. Coronavirus infected 77,793 people in the state. Mumbai alone accounted for 1,439 cases in last 24 hours. The capital of Maharashtra is right on top in the list of Covid-19 active cases with a tally of 44,391.

Delhi: The number of Covid-19 disease cases in Delhi exceeded the 25,000-mark on Thursday as the national capital added 1,359 new infections. The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital stood at 25,004.

Chennai: The southern state of Tamil Nadu has been one of the leading contributors in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country. While most of the state is affected by the coronavirus disease, the tally in its capital Chennai has reached 18,693.

Gujarat: Gujarat saw the biggest jump in COVID-19 on Thursday. At least 495 people tested positive for the virus, taking the coronavirus tally to 18,584. The state recorded the second highest number of fatalities after Maharashtra at 1,155.
