Dr. S Jaishankar Told Russia, India Is Committed To ASEAN Centrality

India and Russia are exploring connectivity through the North-South International Transport Corridor and the Eastern Maritime Corridor. After his talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday, India's Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar said that both sides have focused on new opportunities in the Russian Far East.

"We spoke about connectivity including the International North-South Transport Corridor and the Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor," an official statement issued by the ministry said.

Discussing international relations, Jaishankar told Lavrov that India is strongly committed to ASEAN centrality and is underlined by the Indo-Pacific Oceans initiative. It is known that India is advocating for the East-Asia Summit.

Jaishankar said, "Russia is a very important partner. Be it their Far East or the Chennai-Vladivostok Corridor."

Jaishankar said that although the world has changed in the last seven decades and there have been separate governments at both ends, relations between India and Russia remain uniquely strong and stable. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said that the reason for this is that there has been a continuous ability between the two sides to identify and update their common interests.

He said, "Both of us (India and Russia) understand the importance of our relationship for global peace, security, and stability". The two ministers also talked about long-term participation in the nuclear, space, and defense sectors.

Jaishankar said that bilateral cooperation remains energetic and pioneer.
The ministry statement said that in the discussions held on Tuesday, discussions were also held about the preparations for the annual summit meeting of mostly Russian President Vladimir Putin.
