"24 people who were present at the Markaz building in Nizamuddin, Delhi have tested positive for coronavirus so far," said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain. More than 200 people who attended a religious congregation in the locality had shown symptoms for the new coronavirus after which a major part of the area was cordoned off by authorities.
The Andhra Pradesh government has confirmed that at least 369 people from Andhra Pradesh had attended the Nizamuddin event.
68-year-old Philippines national who passed away last Sunday in Mumbai’s Hiranandani Hospital had also visited the Nizamuddin congregation between March 3-10. Around the same time between March 1-15 the religious congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz was underway. Two people from his group also turned positive.The group had stayed in a mosque at Navi Mumbai . The leader of the mosque has turned positive. His son, grandson and maid have also been infected. Many people the priest came in contact with have been quarantined.
A high-level meeting is underway at the residence of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal over the issues of coronavirus and Markaz building event at Nizamuddin. Deputy CM Arvind Kejriwal, Health Minister Satyendar Jain and other officials are present at the meeting.
