The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic has spread across 178 countries. Today is the seventh day of India's 21-day lockdown. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India stands at 1,251. The Union Health Ministry has said that 102 patients have recovered so far, but 32 have died. Globally, there have been over 7.8 lakh confirmed cases of COVID-19. At least 37,600 people have died so far. The United States, Italy and Spain have registered more cases than China, where the outbreak started. The outbreak is having a major impact on global economy and the stock market.

The death toll due to Covid-19 reached 38 after six people from Telangana who attended a religious congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin died due to the novel coronavirus. While the Union Health Ministry has maintained the virus is still in the local transmission stage in India and yet to move to the community transmission phase, the Supreme Court has cautioned that fear and panic are becoming a bigger problem than the coronavirus.

At Nizamuddin, over 1,000 people have been shifted till now - 334 to hospitals and 700 to quarantine centers. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal are holding a meeting via video conferencing over Nizamuddin Markaz issue. As per sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Indonesians who visited the Nizamuddin markaz had arrived in India on tourist visa but attended religious congregation without informing the authorities.
