Coronavirus death toll in India crosses 6,000-mark, cases top 2.16 lakh

India on Thursday morning reported 9,304 new cases of coronavirus and 260 deaths in 24 hours. The total number of cases in India now at 2,16,919, including 1,04,107 recovered. The death toll due to the novel coronavirus infection in India crossed the 6,000-mark on Thursday morning to settle at 6,075. The total number of cases in India include 1,06,737 active cases.

Globally, the total number of coronavirus cases went past 64.32 lakh. Over 3.8 lakh fatalities were reported worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University. The United States confirmed 28 lakh COVID-19 cases and over 1.07 deaths.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit die to coronavirus in India, has so far recorded 74,860 cases of coronavirus. The death toll in Maharshtra climbed to 2,587 on Thursday. Mumbai registers the highest number of cases in the state with 43,492 infections and 1,417 deaths.

Around 1,286 coronavirus cases were reported in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, taking the state's total number of cases beyond 25,000.
