Imphal,
India made a strong start to Thursday at the Asian Games 2026 as wushu player Naorem Roshibina Devi won the silver medal in the women's 60kg sanda event in Nagoya. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh congratulated Roshibina on her achievement.
The Chief Minister wrote on his official X account, “Heartiest congratulations to Naorem Roshibina Devi on winning the silver medal in the women’s 60kg sanda event at the 20th Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Her third consecutive Asian Games medal is a matter of great pride for Manipur and India. I hope she continues to inspire our youth and bring further glory to the country.”
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) Manipur also posted on its official X handle that Khemchand Singh congratulated Roshibina Devi for winning the silver medal in the women's 60kg sanda category at the 20th Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya, Japan.
According to the CMO, Roshibina has created history by becoming the first Indian wushu athlete to win medals at three consecutive Asian Games. She won bronze at Jakarta 2018, silver at Hangzhou 2023 and silver at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Roshibina won the silver medal in the women's 60kg sanda event after losing 0-2 to China's Zhang Xiaoyu in the final. Zhang dominated the title bout, winning both rounds 5-0 to take the contest 10-0.
This is Roshibina's third Asian Games medal. She had earlier won a bronze medal at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games at the age of 17 and a silver medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
The 25-year-old Manipuri athlete secured her place in the medal rounds after defeating Macau's Chu Man Sin 5-0 in the quarterfinal. In the sanda category of wushu, reaching the semifinals guarantees at least a bronze medal.
Roshibina then defeated Indonesia's Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semifinal to reach the final. However, she was unable to overcome Zhang Xiaoyu of China in the gold-medal bout and had to settle for silver.
Roshibina had aimed to change the colour of her medal this time, but could not achieve that goal. Nevertheless, winning silver at consecutive Asian Games highlights her consistent performance on the continental stage.
