Amid Rising Swine Flu and Dengue Cases, Schools Tighten Precautions and Issue Advisory for Parents

Noida,Amid rising cases of swine flu and dengue in Gautam Buddh Nagar, schools in the district have also stepped up preventive measures. To protect children from seasonal illnesses and prevent the spread of infections, several schools have begun taking precautionary steps and issued advisories to parents, urging them to pay special attention to their children’s health. Schools have clearly advised parents not to send children to school if they develop symptoms such as cold, cough, fever or flu-like symptoms. Parents are being advised to allow children to rest at home when early symptoms of illness appear and to seek medical advice whenever necessary. School managements have said that sending a sick child to school could not only worsen the child’s condition but also increase the risk of infection spreading to other students. Schools have therefore appealed to parents to cooperate with these precautionary measures. Several schools are also educating students about the importance of regularly washing their hands, maintaining cleanliness and following good personal hygiene practices. Children are being advised to avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth unnecessarily. Special attention is also being given to cleanliness and sanitation on school premises. In view of the dengue threat, schools have increased preventive measures against mosquitoes. School authorities are checking the premises regularly to ensure that water does not accumulate anywhere. Coolers, flowerpots, rooftops and other potential water-collection points are being inspected regularly, as stagnant water can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Amid frequent changes in weather conditions in Gautam Buddh Nagar, there have been increasing reports of people suffering from viral infections and fever. This has also raised concerns among parents about the health of school-going children. Families are particularly cautious when young children develop symptoms such as cold, cough or fever. Schools have also advised parents not to ignore persistent fever, extreme weakness, breathing difficulties or other serious symptoms and to consult a doctor if such symptoms occur. School authorities have said that while regular attendance is important, children should not be sent to school at the cost of their health. Parents have been urged to monitor their children’s health closely and inform the school if they develop symptoms of illness. According to school managements, better coordination among the health department, schools and parents can play an important role in controlling the spread of infections and ensuring a safer environment for children.
