Twenty-one Indian nationals were rescued from Timure in Nepal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday. The ministry also released a list of those rescued.
According to the MEA, all 21 rescued Indians are from Tamil Nadu and were travelling to the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.
The rescued individuals have been identified as Shivaranjani Muthunathan, Karpagam Rajamohan, Maran Govindasamy, Shanthi Maran, Muthukumaresan Ramalingam, Navu Kabirdas, Vijayabhuvaneshwari Viswanathan, Maithili Muthukumaresan, Thyagarajan Rathinam, Kirubagari Balasubramaniam, Vallinayaki Sivakumar, Sathiya Jayaraman, Thirumavalavan Govindarasu, Kanagasabai Natesapillai, Radhai Kanagasabai, Rathinakumar Kunchithapatham, Punguzhali Ponnambalam, Pazhaniyappan Maikaperumal, Kalaimathi Pazhaniyappan, Raghunathan Muniraj and Kanagasabai Natesa Pillai.
The MEA said the list of rescued Indians was updated as of 1 p.m. on August 27, 2026.
During a media briefing on Thursday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that contact had not yet been established with 288 Indian nationals in Nepal. Of these, 73 are reportedly working at the Trishuli-1 hydropower project.
Jaiswal said, “Twenty-one Indians have been safely rescued so far. Efforts are also continuing to establish contact with around 200 Indians who are stranded in Tibet.”
He said India would continue to provide all possible assistance to Nepal in dealing with the situation caused by the flash floods. At Nepal’s request, India is sending relief materials and Bailey bridges to the affected areas.
The Ministry of External Affairs has also established a 24-hour control room to coordinate assistance and provide information. Round-the-clock helplines have also been activated at the Indian embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing.
Jaiswal further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the Prime Minister of Nepal over the phone, expressed his condolences and assured him of India’s full support and assistance.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the devastating flash floods near the Nepal-Tibet border reached 270, according to a post shared by Nepal Police on social media.
